Roseann Romito
Roseann Romito graduated from a small high school about 20 miles from Pittsburgh. In high school she was active in choral arts and theater both in her school and in the community. Having lived her entire life in this little town she felt a tremendous desire to leave the area. She applied to several schools in Virginia where her brother lived and where she felt she could make a safe transition. She was the first in her immediate family to attend college. Her father was a bricklayer for Corning glass. Her mom took care of the house. They both encouraged her to strive for more.
Upon entering UVa her first priority was to graduate and to pay her way. She worked multiple jobs during the school year and in the summers. In school her major was psychology but she really had no clue what she wanted to do. Upon graduation she took a job with the federal government. She soon realized she was unsatisfied, and in pondering her future she realized that she had sold herself short. With the encouragement and the support of her family she returned to school to complete the courses required to enter medical school. It took two years but she entered the George Washington School of Medicine in August of 1980.
Roseann completed medical school and immediately entered the army completing a residency in internal medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She spent a year in Seoul Korea as a staff internist. Though a bit daunting it was a great experience requiring me to stand on my own.
Following Korea she returned to Walter Reed and completed a residency in radiation oncology at WRMC, NIH and the Navy Hospital. I then spent 3 years as a staff physician at Walter Reed.
Her work experience has included academic positions at University of Maryland and University of Pennsylvania, as well as at community hospitals. She now work as Locum Tenems Physician covering physicians who are on vacation. She currently resides in Lancaster Pennsylvania most of the year with 3-4 months in Florida. She describes herself as a childless dog lady who enjoys travel and painting water colors.
