Patty Epps lived in Falls Church, Virginia before entering the University of Virginia.  She graduated with a BA with High Honors in Government and Foreign Affairs, and subsequently got her MA in Government from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and her JD from the Law School.   While at UVa, she served as an editor on the Cavalier Daily, a Resident Advisor and the College Representative on Student Council, and was a member of the Raven Society, Phi Beta Kappa, and a Lawn Resident.  After Law School, she had a judicial clerkship with a federal judge on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, then joined the Richmond office of Hunton and Williams.   Ms. Epps was a partner in the Labor practice and was the first woman to serve on the Firm’s Executive Committee.  After more than 30 years of practice, she retired to Senior Counsel and assisted with pro bono legal work in immigration law.

Ms Epps currently lives in Richmond and in Charlottesville with her husband of 49 years, John Epps — also a Wahoo whom she met at the CD.  In recent years, she has served on the Alumni Association’s Board of Managers (Chair in 2020 - 21), Jefferson Scholars Foundation Board, Politics Department Advisory Board, and steering committees for several Politics Honors Program reunions.
