Dickie McMullan graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia before coming to the University in September 1970.  She had spent the previous summer in a French speaking Canton, Vaud, in Switzerland, fueling a life-long interest in the French language.  At UVA, Dickie was involved with the first efforts at organizing women's sports clubs and teams, worked at the Corks and Curls, was elected to the Judiciary Council, and was the first female from the college to sit on an Honor Committee trial the summer of 1973.  She also enjoyed being a resident adviser her 3rd year, and living on the East Lawn her fourth.  Dickie enjoyed supporting the Virginia athletic teams as a cheerleader 1971-1973.  She was elected to the Raven Society, the IMP Society, and TILKA.  She has served on both the College Foundation Board, and the Alumni Association Board.

After graduating from the Medical College of Virginia in 1978, Emory's Ophthalmology Residency and two fellowships, she has practiced for 40+ years.  She has served as a founding board member of the Atlanta Medical Women's Association, president of the Atlanta Ophthalmology Society, and as board member of the Medical Association of Atlanta.

Dickie has enjoyed a passion for travel, photography, and "giving back" by being active in mission trips with the Medical Benevolence Foundation, Flying Doctors of America, two parochial medical mission organizations, and The Atlanta Good Samaritan Clinic.
